Dugout Ranch, near Moab, Utah

This movie was filmed on location near Moab, Utah. The setting for Jane Withersteen’s ranch is the Dugout Ranch, a 5,200 acre ranch that is now owned and operated by the Nature Conservancy. Filming commenced for Riders of the Purple Sage in 1995, a year before it was released as a made-for-TV-movie. Filming took place during the summer months where the temperatures often reached as high as 115 degrees F. Riders of the Purple Sage was not the only movie to be filmed in this stunning and picturesque location.
